Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, translated by R. Reading: War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (Pevear and Volokhonsky translation). I don't know if that's maybe my translation, (I'm reading a different translator--Pevear & Volokhonsky) or just a case of the book being longer and more ambitious. With an occasional break, it took me five months to finish the 800 pages of “Anna Karenina”, I probably should have expected not to enjoy “Anna Karenina” very much, because when I read “War and Peace”, I enjoyed the war and was often bored by the peace. Although Leo Tolstoy Two years ago, Pevear and Volokhonsky also published their hefty, beautiful version of War and Peace, enthralling readers of serious literature and becoming the subject of a four-week online discussion presided by the New York Times.
